About The T Clinic
General questions
What is The T Clinic?
The T Clinic is a medical practice offering aesthetic, hormonal, regenerative and wellness medicine across three locations — Bryanston, Brooklyn (Pretoria) and Groblersdal (La Femm Studio). Dr Thys Heyns leads all medical work.
Who is Dr Thys Heyns?
Dr Thys Heyns is a medical doctor with extensive experience in aesthetic medicine and hormone health. He graduated from the University of the Free State. Dr Heyns is an international trainer for Galderma (dermal fillers and Sculptra) and Ipsen (neurotoxins), and has been working with PRP-based regenerative treatments in South Africa for many years.
Do I need a referral to visit The T Clinic?
No referral is necessary. You can book a consultation directly by contacting any of our clinics or completing the online enquiry form.
Is a consultation required before treatment?
Yes, all new patients require an initial consultation. This allows us to understand your concerns, assess your suitability for treatment, discuss options and create a personalised treatment plan. For hormone-related treatments, blood tests may be required before your consultation.
Does medical aid cover your treatments?
Most aesthetic treatments are considered elective and are not covered by medical aid. Some hormone-related treatments and consultations may be partially covered depending on your medical aid plan. We recommend contacting your medical aid directly to confirm coverage. We can provide the necessary documentation and codes for submission.

What are neurotoxin treatments?
Neurotoxin treatments use purified botulinum toxin to temporarily relax facial muscles that cause wrinkles. Common brand names include Botox, Dysport and Bocouture. The treatment smooths dynamic wrinkles such as frown lines, forehead lines and crow's feet.
How long does Botox last?
Results typically last 3–4 months for most patients. With regular treatments, some patients find the effects last longer as the muscles become trained to relax. Maintenance treatments every 3–4 months are recommended for optimal results.
Does Botox hurt?
Most patients describe the sensation as a small pinch. Very fine needles are used and the procedure is quick — typically 10–15 minutes. No anaesthesia is required, though numbing cream can be applied for sensitive patients.
When will I see results?
You may notice initial effects within 2–3 days, with full results visible at 10–14 days. A complimentary review appointment at 2 weeks is offered to assess results and make any adjustments if needed.
What are dermal fillers made of?
Most modern dermal fillers are made from hyaluronic acid (HA), a substance that occurs naturally in your skin. HA attracts and retains moisture, adding volume and hydration. Premium brands used include Restylane, Juvederm and Teoxane.
What areas can be treated with fillers?
Common treatment areas include lips, cheeks, nasolabial folds (smile lines), marionette lines, jawline, chin, tear troughs (under-eye hollows), temples and hands. Different filler types are used for different areas depending on the required consistency and longevity.
How long do fillers last?
Duration varies by product and treatment area. Lip fillers typically last 6–12 months, while cheek and jawline fillers can last 12–18 months. Factors affecting longevity include metabolism, lifestyle and the specific product used.
Can fillers be reversed?
Yes, hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved using an enzyme called hyaluronidase. This is one of the safety advantages of HA fillers — if you're unhappy with results or experience complications, the filler can be removed.
What is the difference between Botox and fillers?
Botox relaxes muscles to smooth dynamic wrinkles (those caused by movement). Fillers add volume to fill static lines, restore lost volume and enhance facial contours. They work differently and are often used together for comprehensive facial rejuvenation.
What is Sculptra and how does it work?
Sculptra is a biostimulator containing poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA). Unlike traditional fillers that add volume immediately, Sculptra stimulates your body's own collagen production over time. This results in gradual, natural-looking improvement that can last up to 2 years.
What are skin boosters?
Skin boosters are injectable treatments that hydrate the skin from within. Unlike fillers that add volume, skin boosters use a softer, more fluid hyaluronic acid that spreads through the skin to improve hydration, elasticity and overall skin quality.
What is PRP?
PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) uses your own blood to stimulate healing and regeneration. A small amount of blood is drawn, processed to concentrate the platelets and growth factors, then injected into the treatment area. Because it uses your own cells, there's no risk of allergic reaction.
What can PRP treat?
PRP has multiple applications including PRP Renewal Therapy for facial rejuvenation, hair restoration for thinning hair, scar improvement, and intimate wellness treatments (the Renew Shot for women and T-Shot for men). It's also used in combination with other treatments to enhance results.
How many PRP sessions do I need?
For facial rejuvenation, 3 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart is typical, with annual maintenance. For hair restoration, 3–4 initial sessions followed by maintenance every 6–12 months. Results are cumulative and improve with each treatment.
Women's Health
Renew Her questions
What is the Renew Shot?
The Renew Shot is a PRP treatment for women's intimate wellness. Platelet-rich plasma is applied to specific tissues to support regeneration, sensation, lubrication and sexual response. It can also help with mild urinary incontinence. The procedure takes about 30 minutes with minimal discomfort.
When should I consider hormone therapy for menopause?
Hormone therapy can be considered if you're experiencing symptoms that affect your quality of life — hot flushes, sleep disruption, mood changes, weight gain, brain fog, vaginal dryness, low libido or joint aches. A consultation with Dr Heyns and a full blood panel will determine whether BHRT is appropriate for you and what protocol would suit your individual situation.
Can you help with low libido or sexual dysfunction?
Yes. Female sexual concerns often have hormonal, vascular or psychological components — frequently a combination. The approach is comprehensive: hormone testing, medical history review and discussion of your concerns. Treatments may include hormone optimisation, the Renew Shot, prescribed peptide therapy or other regenerative approaches tailored to your needs.
Are consultations for intimate concerns confidential?
Absolutely. These are sensitive topics. All consultations are completely private and confidential. The team is experienced in discussing intimate health concerns with compassion and without judgement. Your comfort and discretion are the priority.
Men's Health
Renew Him questions
What is the T-Shot?
The T-Shot uses PRP to support erectile function and male sexual performance. Growth factors in PRP support tissue regeneration and blood vessel health. Benefits may include improved erection quality, increased sensitivity and tissue health. It's often used alongside other treatments for optimal results.
What is E-Stim therapy?
E-Stim (Electromagnetic Stimulation) uses controlled, low-level currents to support blood flow and tissue health in the pelvic region. This non-invasive, drug-free treatment supports nerve signalling, smooth muscle function and circulation — addressing multiple factors that contribute to erectile concerns. The painless procedure is delivered over a course of sessions and is particularly effective combined with the T-Shot or hormone optimisation.
What are signs of low testosterone?
Common signs include fatigue, decreased energy, reduced muscle mass, increased body fat (especially around the middle), low libido, erectile changes, mood changes, irritability, depression, poor concentration and sleep disturbances. Many men attribute these symptoms to "just getting older," but they're often treatable.
What is testosterone replacement therapy (TRT)?
TRT restores testosterone to optimal levels when your body no longer produces enough. Treatment options include injections, creams or pellets. Levels are carefully monitored through regular blood tests for safe, effective treatment. Most men notice improved energy, mood and vitality within weeks of starting therapy.
Can you help with erectile concerns?
Yes. Erectile concerns often have multiple contributing factors including hormonal imbalances, vascular issues and lifestyle factors. The approach starts with thorough testing to identify the underlying causes. Treatments may include hormone optimisation, the T-Shot, E-Stim therapy or medication — often a combination for best results.
What is andropause?
Andropause, sometimes called "male menopause," refers to the gradual decline in testosterone that occurs as men age, typically starting in the mid-30s. Unlike female menopause, which happens relatively quickly, andropause is a gradual process. The symptoms can significantly impact quality of life but respond well to appropriate treatment.

Wellness questions
What is IV therapy and who is it for?
IV therapy delivers vitamins, minerals and antioxidants directly into your bloodstream, bypassing the digestive system for full bioavailability. It's beneficial for fatigue, immune support, recovery from illness or exercise, hydration, skin health and general wellness. Treatments take 30–60 minutes and effects are often felt immediately.
What are peptides?
Peptides are short chains of amino acids that act as signalling molecules in the body. Different peptides support different biological processes — tissue repair, growth hormone support, immune modulation, metabolic function, sexual health and longevity. Peptide therapy uses specific protocols to support particular health goals as part of a comprehensive wellness programme.
All peptide protocols at The T Clinic are individually prescribed by Dr Heyns, medically supervised, and sourced from SAHPRA-approved compounding pharmacies. Specific peptide selection is discussed during private consultation.
Do you offer medical weight management?
Yes. The medical weight management programme addresses the underlying factors that make weight loss difficult — hormonal imbalances, metabolic dysfunction and appetite regulation. Treatment may include prescription weight loss medication where appropriate, hormone optimisation, nutritional support and lifestyle guidance for sustainable results.
Why is gut health important?
Your gut influences far more than digestion — it affects immune function, hormone balance, mood, energy, skin health and weight. An imbalanced gut microbiome can contribute to inflammation, nutrient deficiencies and various health issues. The gut health programme identifies imbalances and uses targeted interventions to restore optimal function.
